DEJARIK

Dejarik, also spelled Djarik, is the game that Chewbacca played while on the Millennium Falcon. C-3PO and R2-D2 faced him in that fateful match. The dejarik, or holochess, board was installed in the Falcon by Chewie himself in order to pass time on long hyperspace travels. Chewbacca had been playing the game since he was a kid, and he was an extremey skilled dejarik player. But when he lost, he became furious. His best childhood friend Salporin knew better than to play dejarik with Chewbacca.
Dejaric Characters
Ghhhk
The ghhhk is a
creature native to Clak'dor VII. The seemingly unimposing
creatures with the distinctive mating calls are actually
fierce predators. They are nocturnal with keen night vision
and excellent hearing. Feared for their razor sharp tongues
by the native Clak'dorrians, the ghhhk are hunted and
slaughtered regularly. Their high reproductive rate and
voracious appetite gives them the upper hand.
Grimtaash the Molator
A legendary beast
said to protect the Alderaanian Royal
family from corruption and betrayal, Grimtaash was unable to
do anything to protect them from the vengeance of the
Empire, and it's dreaded Death Star.
While prominent in the myths of Alderaan, the Molators actually existed at one time in the planet's ancient past. The species got its name from its practice of molating, or ripping the spinal column from its still living victims. It was also known as a blood-screecher, due to its ability to draw blood from its foes with its terrible, high-pitched shrieks.
Grimtaash was the last and most ferocious of the Molators. While the rest of the Molators were slaughtered into extinction by the early Alderaanians, Grimtaash was kept prisoner, chained to a massive boulder, as a sign of their triumph over evil. The myth soon arose that by holding Grimtaash prisoner, the most corrupt creature on the planet was actually protecting the Alderaanians from corruption, evil, betrayal and harm.
Houjix
Despite its
fearsome appearance, the Houjix is actually a gentle and
loyal creature, at least as far as its masters are
concerned. Native to the Gran homeworld (see Ree Yees), the
houjix developed a relationship with the Gran similar to the
relationship developed between humans and dogs. An excellent
tracker, the houjix is prized for its endurance and
ferocity. The creature's bite is said to be powerful enough
to snap the thighbone of a Krayt dragon. Its suction-cup
feet enable it to track its prey over virtually any terrain
Kintan Strider
This barrel-chested mass of muscle was, at one time, the
most feared race in the galaxy. Now, thanks mostly to the
dreaded Empire, the Striders of Kintan are all but extinct.
Now, the once-familiar thud of their Burdook war hammers
(made from the knuckle of a giant Burdook war-pig) is only
heard in illegal gladatorial arenas, and in the palaces of
the wealthy crime lords who keep them as pets.
While feared for their great leaping abilities, they are best known for their phenomenal healing abilities. A Kintan Strider can shrug off blaster fire, its wounds healing almost as fast as they are made, and can regrow lost limbs in a matter of days. About the only way to effectively kill the creatures, short of a turbo laser, is to break its back. Sadly, this makes them easy prey for the much larger, but less powerful Mantellian Savrip.
