Friends and allies

This section lists many friends and allies of the Wookiees who have helped them over the years. Wookiees are very strong and powerful but the aid of a friend is always welcome to those in time of want or in time of plenty.

Friends of the Wookiees

Yoda

Yoda went to Kashyyyk near the very end of the Clone Wars to lead the Republic army against the separatist invasion. The separatist's were after direct control of Kashyyyk because of it being a central trade-route to the Republic. The battle was raging and the Republic was winning the fight when order sixty-six was issued by Darth Sidous to eliminate the Jedi thereby putting Yoda at great risk. Yoda took out the clone troopers that came for his life and escaped Kashyyyk with the aid of Chewbacca and Tarfful. Yode met up with Bail Organa and Obi-Wan Kenobi and attempted to take out the Emperor himself but was defeated, and fled to the remote plant of Dagobah a swampy uncharted planet far from the Empire's reach to wait on his last hope for the fall of the Sith, the Children of Anikin Skywalker. 

The Jedi order

The Jedi order's main objective during the clone wars was to try to restore peace to the ravaged worlds plagued by the Separatist armies. With Kashyyyk being not just one of those worlds but also a major trade-route of the Republic making it vital to protect. To help the Wookiees the Republic sent an army led by three jedi including Yoda, Quinlan Vos, and Luminara Unduli. When the clones turned on the jedi Chewbacca and Tarfful helped the only surviving Jedi; master Yoda to escape via escape pod.

The old Republic

The Corellians discovered the Wookiees and opened trade negotiations with them and, in typical fashion, immediately began exploiting them. This state of affairs would have gone on for some time had it not been for the Alderaanian Diplomatic Corps, who petitioned the Republic for a senate seat to be created for a representative of Kashyyyk. Thus, Kashyyyk became a Republic world.

Once in the Senate, the Wookiees promptly dissolved the unfair treaty the Corellians had made with them and made new treaties with other worlds and species -- and a more equitable new treaty with Corellia. They purchased hyperdrive technology from the Duros, established Wookiee cultural studies programs in Alderaan's finest universities. In the Senate, politicians spoke admirably of "the wisdom of the Wookiees," which were perceived as a species more in touch with the Force, due to their integration of nature and technology. Kashyyyk had become a distinguished member of the galactic community.

The Rebel Alliance

Kashyyyk had been occupied by the Galactic Empire during their reign of terror and many Wookiees were enslaved to help with the many building projects such as the first Death Star. The Rebel Alliance the underground military group who stood up to the Galactic Empire which ruled the galaxy with an iron fist for over twenty years. The Empire had become so large and powerful that the leaders thought their Empire was invincible thereby underestimating the Rebel group which led to their downfall, allowing the Wookiees to live their lives in freedom once again.

Friends of Chewbacca

Salporin

   Salporin was a childhood friend of Chewbacca, but when Chewie left Kashyyyk to explore the galaxy, Salporin decided stay behind. He moved to the coastal city of Kachirho where, he worked as a hunter and craftsman until the clone wars started.
   When the Separatists invaded Kashyyyk Chewbacca returned from his travels and volunteered along with Salporin to help fight them off side by side. The Republic sent an army of clones led by Yoda to help the slightly overmatched Wookiee army led by Captain Merumeru along with Salporin and Chewbacca in the ensuing battle.
   After the clone wars ended and the Galactic Empire had risen to power they were in need of workers, so the Empire decided that Wookiees with their strength and mechanical skills would make good workers. Instead of hiring the Wookiees the Empire envaded Kashyyyk and began enslaving many Wookiees, Salporin being one of them. He served as a slave for many long hard years. After the fall of the Empire, Kashyyyk was soon liberated from slavery finally allowing Salporin to be set free. With his newfound freedom Salporin happily returned to the simple life of a civilian.
 

Han Solo

Han Solo has been Chewbacca’s best friend, smuggling partner, rescuer, captain, and fellow hero of the Rebel Alliance through many years. Han Solo rescued Chewbacca from being killed by an imperial officer while in slavery, and in Wookiee culture such brave action calls for a life-debt wherein the Wookiee must protect his rescuer for life.

Han and Chewie were one of the top smuggling outfits in the galaxy until becoming enmeshed (little to their knowledge at the time) in the rebellion against the Empire.

Han and Chewbacca went through many adventures together all across the galaxy from Tatooine to Hoth and back again. The lowest point of their adventures came in the form of separation; Han was frozen alive and taken away by a bounty hunter to Jabba the Hutt with Chewbacca unable to prevent any of it. The separation although emotionally painful wasn't permanent as the two were joyfully reunited six months later. The highest point of their adventures came with the downfall of the Empire in which the two had played a major roll, by leading the task force sent to take out the Death Star's shield generator in a successful mission. Soon after the rebel starships flew into the core of Death Star and destroyed the reactor causing the massive space station to explode in one of the most spectacular fireballs ever seen in the galaxy.

Luke Skywalker

Luke Skywalker the twin brother of Leia Organa and the son of former Jedi Anikin Skywalker who was now known as Darth Vader. When Luke was an infant he was hidden to protect him from his evil father on the desert world of Tatooine. Luke, who knew nothing of his father, lived with his aunt Baru and Uncle Owen who ran a small moisture farm.

Luke's uncle came to own an R2 droid which the Empire happened to be searching for, that carried stolen plans for the first Death Star which could bring about its destruction. Stormtroopers were sent to the farm and upon not finding the droids Owen and Baru were killed and their farm was burned.

R2-D2 had run away in search of Obi-Wan Kenobi for whom the plans were meant for. Luke who went out to retrieve R2-D2 was totally unaware of what transpired at the farm. Luke found R2 and Kenobi, who upon seeing the plans told Luke that his father had been a Jedi and asked him to help deliver the plans to Aldaraan. Luke refused but upon returning home and seeing his dead relatives, he decided to go with Obi-Wan and learn to become a Jedi like his father.

Going to find a pilot to take them to Alderaan, they ended up hiring Han Solo and Chewbacca to fly them there aboard the Millennium Falcon thus starting a lifelong friendship with many adventures together. From rescuing princess Leia, to leading a Rebel task force in a successful mission to the forest moon of Endor to take out the deflector shield protecting the second Death Star allowing it to be destroyed by Rebel starships.

Luke was not with the task force when the shield generator was destroyed; having learned the ways of the force under Jedi Master Yoda, confronted Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine on the second Death Star in hopes of winning his father back to the good side of the force. After wounding Vader in an ensuing lightsaber duel Luke refused to kill his father making Palpatine so angry that he attacked him using force lightning. Vader, who couldn't stand seeing his son tortured so much, grabbed the Emperor and threw him down a shaft to his doom. With this great deed Luke's father was redeemed from the dark side but soon died of his injuries from the duel and the force lightning that he absorbed when he threw the Emperor.

Luke escaping the Death Star with his father’s body came to Endor and following Jedi custom made a fire to consume his lifeless father. Afterwards Luke met up with his Rebel friends to celebrate the fall of the Empire.

 

Leia Organa

Leia Organa was the daughter of Anikin Skywalker and had been hidden from her now evil father to protect her from the Empire. Leia had been adopted by Bail Organa a member of the Royal Family of Alderaan who helped form the Rebel Alliance.

She entered politics as a senator and during her term used her title to personally help out the Rebel Alliance. Her greatest service involved delivering stolen plans, for the Empire's super-weapon the Death Star, which could help bring about its demise. This great deed nearly cost her, her own life as she was captured and ordered to be executed but she was rescued by Luke Skywalker and Han Solo, and Chewbacca who then brought her and the stolen plans to the Rebel base on Yavin 4. With the help of the plans the Rebels were able to destroy the Death Star.

Shortly after the Alliance had set up a new hidden base on the frozen world of Hoth they were discovered by the Imperials and had to evacuate. Unable to reach her transport Leia went with Han Solo aboard his ship the Millennium Falcon. Pursued by the Imperial fleet halfway across the star system the Falcon kept evading their grasp but was finally captured in Cloud City on Bespin by Darth Vader. Han was frozen in carbonite and given to the bounty hunter Boba Fett as payment for helping capture the Rebels, but Leia and Chewbacca escaped Cloud City with the aid of its administrator, Lando Calrissian.

After regrouping the Rebels tracked down Han's carbon-frozen form on the desert planet of Tatooine in the palace of Jabba the Hutt one of the most powerful crime-lords in the galaxy. Deciding to rescue Han the Rebels made a plan to free him, and even though things didn’t go exactly as planned it was still a success.

Leia and her friends went back to the Fleet and volunteered to help the Alliance in their offensive against the second Death Star. Han Solo was given the job of leading a strike team of Luke, Leia, Chewbacca, two droids, and a small battalion of soldiers to on the forest moon of Endor to take out the shield generator protecting the Death Star. Soon after landing, Leia was separated from the group and ended up meeting a small tribe of bear-like creatures called Ewoks who took her to their village. Leia’s friends soon found her and after telling the Ewoks their story, were accepted as part of the tribe and offered help with the mission. During their stay Leia learned that Luke was her brother and the truth about their father. After a furious battle with the Imperial ground forces in which the Ewoks valiantly fought, the shield generator was destroyed allowing rebel starfighters to destroy the Death Star ending the reign of the oppressive Galactic Empire.


 

Lando Calrissian

Han Solo's ship was in need of repairs do to Imperial pursuit, the only option he could think of was his old friend Lando Calrissian who was the administrator of a gas mining facility on Bespin. Years earlier Han and Lando had both been in the smuggling business and had been good friends. In one of their meetings the two were playing a heated game of sabaac, (a popular card game) Lando who was then the owner of the Millennium Falcon bet the ship in the game and lost her to Han.

Lando grew tired of the smuggling business and decided that a change was in order so he took up residence in the floating metropolis of Cloud City, on Bespin. With his newfound occupation Lando now found he was responsible for the lives of millions.

When the group of Han, Leia, Chewbacca and C-3P0, landed they were greeted by a very warm and friendly Lando Calrissian who said he would fix the ship and let them stay until the repairs were done. But unknown to Han and his friends the Empire had found out where they had been headed and arriving ahead of them made a deal Lando for their capture. He soon came to the realization the deal wasn’t worth the price he paid. So he decided to do something about it freeing Han's friends, Leia Organa and Chewbacca. Escaping the city aboard the Millennium Falcon, the group rejoined the rebel fleet.

Lando along with Luke, Leia, Chewie, and the droids, knowing where Han had been taken they were set on rescuing him, so they planned a daring mission to rescue him from Jabba the Hutt's palace on Tatooine. Lando hired in as one of Jabba’s guards and gained entry into the palace. He was in perfect position helping to take out several of the guards when the rebels sprung Solo’s rescue over the Sarlac pit. The rescue was a great success and the group returned to the fleet.

Upon reaching the Rebel fleet the group discovered that an assault on the second Death Star was planned because the station was not finished. After having gone through the ordeal with Han, Lando wished to help out so he volunteered to lead the starfighter assault on the Death Star while Admiral Ackbar led the capital ships. After finding out the Death Star was operational, Ackbar was ready to retreat but, Calrissian insisted the Rebel fleet engage the Imperial's at close range to protect the fleet from the Death Star's superlaser.

Once Death Star's deflector shield was knocked out, Lando led the starfighters into the station's incomplete superstructure aboard the Falcon, and flew directly into the reactor core. Once inside he loosed a volley of concussion missiles at the Death Star's exposed heart causing a massive explosion. After outrunning the explosion the Millennium Falcon burst triumphantly out of the dying Death Star.
